Many of you may have heard over the past week of a CPU related bug, this issue is known to affect many modern processors, including processors by Intel, AMD and ARM CPUs since the past decade, this affects servers, desktop computers and many common computing devices, a Linux kernel patch has been made available in the past day which we are applying to all our nodes to protect you from the security issue. Additional information regarding this issue can be found at https://access.redhat.com/security/vulnerabilities/speculativeexecution

To complete this patching process we will need to reboot all servers into the newer kernel which includes the patch/fix in it. We will post a status of each node as we complete this process and reboot into the newer kernel at our status area, http://status.crowncloud.net/

Please note,

  1. As this is an urgent issue which has just been recently patched in the Linux kernel and made available we were not able to give you an earlier notice of this action.
  2. We expect a max of 10-15 minutes of downtime per node to complete this action.

If you are running a KVM based VPS,

You will need to update your operating system's kernel and reboot the VPS as well, as each KVM VPS run's its own kernel. You can refer to this simple guide on how to update your operating system, http://wiki.crowncloud.net/?update_centos_and_ubuntu_and_debian
